Enea Bastianini and Niccolò Antonelli will start tomorrow’s Moto3 Grand Prix of France from the fifth row of the grid, after posting respectively the 13th and the 15th fastest time during this afternoon’s 45-minute qualifying session 45 at the historic Le Mans circuit.

In his last attempt, 16-year old Bastianini - who had a crash this morning during the third and final free practice session - managed to set a lap time of 1’43”299 , which improves a little more than two thents of a second the performance obtained yesterday in the second free practice session: despite a mistake in the first sector of the track, the youngster from Rimini has therefore caught his best qualifying result of the year, after the 15th place finish set during the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying, two weeks ago .

Niccolò Antonelli was unfortunately stopped by an engine problem on his KTM machine, which didn’t allow him to take advantage of the last part of the qualifying session : the 18-year-old Italian, forced to stay in the pits, saw several riders overtake him in the final stages, closing the qualifying with the lap time set in the first part of the session, 1’43”314.

NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (15th- 1'43"314) “Everything was going well and I was also improving my lap times when I suddenly experienced an engine problem. I entered the pit, but unfortunately we realized that it wouldn’t have been possible to continue the qualifying. Therefore I couldn’t take advantage of the last part of the session, in which we would have fitted new tyres. However, given the situation, we are not too far behind on the grid for tomorrow’s race”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (13th - 1'43"299) “Honestly, I was expecting something more from today’s qualifying: I’m not happy about my riding, I was a bit too nervous today and I couldn’t exploit all my potential. I also did a mistake in the first sector of the track during my last attempt: without that mistake, I would probably be able to start the race in a better position. Anyway, now we don’t think about it anymore and we are already focused on tomorrow's race”.

FAUSTO GRESINI “Unfortunately today we didn’t get what we wanted. Probably the fall of this morning, in which he hit his head, slowed a bit Enea: we hope that tomorrow he can be in better shape in order to exploit his full potential. Niccolò had an engine problem that didn’t allow us to use the last 10 minutes of qualifying; now we must check with calm the cause of this problem. We would be able to take a better position on the grid with both riders, but it didn’t go as we hoped: howevere, we don’t give up and we look forward to tomorrow’s race, because we can be competitive”.
