The French Grand Prix, fifth race of the 2014 World Championship campaign for the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3, started in positive fashion for the Italian duo Niccolò Antonelli and Enea Bastianini at the historic Le Mans track today. Bastianini, especially, closed the first day of practice with an incredible fifth fastest time - 1’43”545 – just 0.1 seconds off today’s best lap time: the young rookie from Rimini, on his first visit to Le Mans, closed the morning session in 15th place, then in the afternoon was able to improve his time by 1.6 seconds, climbing the classification and thus proving to be able to adapt quickly to a completely new track. A late crash during the afternoon session has instead prevented his team-mate Niccolò Antonelli to further improve his lap times: seventh fastest in the morning free practice session, during which he showed a consistent pace, the 18-year-old closed the combined classification with the 16th fastest time, 1’44”287.
NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (16th - 1'44"287) “The fall in the final stages of the second free practice session was really a pity: I did a mistake because I pushed too hard when the tyres were still cold: I should have waited a little more. It was a really small crash, but unfortunately it was not possible to re-join the track. However, I’m happy with the work we did today, already during the morning we were able to maintain a good pace right from the start. For this reason, I’m confident ahead of tomorrow”.
ENEA BASTIANINI (5th - 1'43"545) “Today was great! I immediately loved the track and setting already the fifth fastest time is a really nice feeling! This morning I took only a few laps to get used to the circuit: I thought that the first sector would have been the most difficult, but actually it’s where at the moment I am more at ease. Therefore, I’m not too surprised to be so fast already, but obviously I’m delighted. Tomorrow I would like to be again in the top five, although it won’t be easy: also to stay in the top ten would be an excellent result”.
FAUSTO GRESINI “Congratulations to Enea, who continues to impress and grow race by race: even though he had never seen this track before, he’s already very close to the fastest riders, and this is undoubtedly an exceptional result. Niccolò completed a good first day of work as well: he’s been consistent and he rode very well. Too bad only for the small crash, without which he would have been among the fastest. I’m satisfied because we know that we have the potential to do well with both riders tomorrow”.
