SUPERB ANTONELLI TAKES FIRST CAREER POLE FOR FINAL SHOWDOWN

The final qualifying of the 2014 campaign, which was held this afternoon at Valencia, saw the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 claiming its first pole position thanks to a brilliant performance by Niccolò Antonelli: the 18-year-old rider from Cattolica, at his first pole position in Moto3, was able to steal the show to the two challengers for the World title, Jack Miller and Alex Marquez, setting the fastest time, 1’39”183, in the final minutes of a hard-fought qualifying session, which also saw Antonelli crashing with no consequences. His teammate Enea Bastianini, instead, was struggling today: the 16-year-old rookie from Rimini, crashed at turn 4 after he lose the front, will start tomorrow from the seventh row of the grid with the 21st fastest time, 1'40"412, higher than the lap times signed during yesterday's free practice. NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (1st - 1'39"183)“Winning the pole position is a great feeling: today we got the maximum and this gives us a great satisfaction. However, we already look forward to tomorrow’s race: I would love to round off the season in the best possible way. This is also my last race with this team, with which there has always been a fantastic relationship: it would be nice to get together a great result. There are still two or three things to fix on the bike, because today I also crashed in qualifying and this is not good. I’m still struggling a little bit with the front end and although we have been strong, we have to look for a slightly better feeling in this area”. ENEA BASTIANINI (21st - 1'40"412)“I’m very angry because today I couldn’t get what I wanted and I'm still wondering why. It was an unlucky day, we had a bad start already this morning, with the bike that was moving a lot on the front and therefore we couldn’t get a good rhythm. Then in the afternoon, during qualifying, I also crashed due to the wind which made me lose grip at the front. Too bad. Tomorrow, however, we will try to recover positions and we will fight to the end”.FAUSTO GRESINI“I’m so happy for this pole position, the first in Moto3 for our team and for Niccolò. This pole obtained in the last race is valuable to us and shows that we never gave up, despite the tough times. Today we have found the right balance to get the best, and we are just disappointed that this is not the first race of the season! Seriously, we are very happy with the performance of Niccolò, who has always been very fast since the beginning of the weekend. Now we just need to complete the good job done so far: tomorrow we will face a special race, because we're going to fight at the front with two riders who are going to battle for the World title. As for us, we hope that Niccolò will prove his value again tomorrow, and we'll see how it goes. Bastianini, unfortunately, appeared in trouble today: we are keep working to try to improve and I believe that tomorrow Enea will do his best to recover positions. We must not forget that this is his first season in the World Championship, and tough times are normal”.
