After three unlucky races, Xavier Siméon and the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 returned to collect points in the Grand Prix of Japan which took place today at Twin Ring Motegi circuit, thanks to an encouraging tenth position. The Belgian rider, who started from the fourth row, also tried to chase the riders in front of him, but he couldn’t replicate the good pace he has showed during practice, mainly because of some difficulties under acceleration in the first and fourth sector of the track. The performance shown in Japan, however, bodes well for the next round, scheduled for this weekend at sweeping Phillip Island, in Australia.

Rookie Lorenzo Baldassarri was satisfied with his race performance aboard the Team Gresini Moto2 Suter machine: the 17-year-old rider maintained a good pace throughout the whole race, crossing again the finish line near the points scoring positions thanks to the 17th place, while still struggling with rear grip.

XAVIER SIMEON (10th) “Today I was expecting to be a little bit faster, but in the race I lost about 0.2 seconds from the pace we put on display during practice: I struggled a lot under the T1 and T4 strong accelerations, while in the other two sectors of the track, the T2 and T3, I had a great bike and I could be competitive. Too bad, because the riders in front of me managed to make a small step forward in terms with regard to race pace and I could not reach them. I’m happy anyway to be back in the top ten and for the points we collected today: of course we want more, but starting from here after some difficult races is a good feeling. We remain focused to continue in this direction in the upcoming races”.

LORENZO BALDASSARRI (17th) “It was a very important race for me, because finally I was able to maintain a good pace from start to finish: my lap times were always under the 1’53” mark, except for a few laps. Unfortunately, I struggled with rear grip all weekend and this affected me also during the race. The other riders are able to open the throttle very soon, at the contrary I lose a lot of ground on corner exit and consequently also on the straights. I gave my best today so I’m happy: now we will try to solve these problems because if we do it I’m aware that I can do well and come back to get some points”.
