SIMEON RETURNS ON TOP FORM SCORING A SENSATIONAL SECOND ROW START AT VALENCIA

Aboard the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Suter machine, Xavier Siméon enjoyed today at Valencia a great qualifying session for tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Valencia, the last round of the 2014 Moto2 campaign. The 25-year-old Belgian rider managed to return to a high level of competitiveness, scoring the fifth fastest time in 1’35”566, less than 0.4 seconds off the pace. For Siméon, who will start tomorrow from the middle of the second row, this is the best qualifying result after the fourth and third place start claimed at the beginning of the season, in Austin and in Argentina, respectively: races where he had fought for the win and he had taken a fantastic second place finish.Lorenzo Baldassarri, who has been very quick t this morning in the third and final free practice session (ninth fastest in 1’35”905), closed the day with the 17th fastest time, failing to improve and setting a time of 1’36”036. XAVIER SIMEON (5th - 1'35"566)“Yesterday we had some problems on corner entry, but this morning we were able to improve a lot the situation, so I knew I had a good bike. I tried to make the most of it during qualifying, although there was a very strong wind. I am very glad to be back at this level of competitiveness and we are confident ahead of the race because I almost always did lap times under the 1’36” mark. Tomorrow's race will be funny and we will try to get a very good result in order to close the season in the best possible way”. LORENZO BALDASSARRI (17th - 1'36"036)“I was expecting to take a better position today in qualifying, but in the first part of the session I couldn’t get good lap times, then I was not able to get a good slipstream. In the final minutes I made a ride through into the pit lane to wait for other riders behind me, but doing so the tyres have cooled down and so I have not been able to make the most of them in the last two laps available. On the last lap I still did my best, getting my best performance, although as I said the tyres were a bit cold. Tomorrow we can still make a good race and try to get into the points”.
