Xavier Siméon placed the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Suter machine in 17th position during this afternoon’s qualifying session of the Grand Prix of San Marino and Riviera di Rimini, at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, with a lap time of 1’39”040.The 25-year-old Belgian rider today was able to deepen the knowledge of the new suspension on dry condition, having actually lost yesterday practice because of the rain, and he’s confident he can make further progress tomorrow morning during the warm up.Aboard the Team Gresini Moto2 Suter, Lorenzo Baldassarri got the 19th position in 1’39”148, despite a problem which slowed him down for most of the qualifying session.
XAVIER SIMEON (17th - 1'39"040) “Having lost yesterday’s practice sessions because of the rain, it was not easy for us today because we are using for the first time new suspensions and we needed some more time to test it. Despite everything, our performance was not so bad; the position is the same as the one obtained in qualifying at Silverstone, but I think that here there is more room for improvement. We will try to take advantage of tomorrow morning’s warm up, in order to be more competitive in the race”.
LORENZO BALDASSARRI (19th - 1'39"148) “This morning I had a gearbox problem and this has also affected most of my qualifications. At the end we were able to solve the problem and I was able to push as hard as I could in the last 15 minutes of the session. I improved my lap time despite the short time, so I’m satisfied, though of course we could have done a little better. Tomorrow we'll try some changes in the warm up to try to make the bike less demanding to ride on the many bumps that, then I will give my best in the race”.
FAUSTO GRESINI “Simeon will start the race from the middle of the grid, as happened at Silverstone: we therefore expect a definitely not easy race, but we are confident that Xavier will show a good comeback. There is still room for improvement, because we had access to only one day of testing on the dry with the new suspension and then tomorrow we will use the warm up to make some more work on the bike. The qualifying time of Baldassarri is not bad and also in this case it will be important to make the most of the last 20 minutes available tomorrow morning to further improve, then we know that Lorenzo is ready to fight in the race!”.
