gran premi de Catalunya - qualifying - Go&Fun

An exceptional performance from Enea Bastianini will see the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 rookie start tomorrow's Moto3 Gran Premi de Catalunya from the front row of the grid. During this afternoon’s qualifying session, 16-year-old Bastianini steadily improved his lap times, climbing the timesheets and posting a good 1’50”850 in the final stages, a lap time which allowed him to place himself immediately behind Spaniard poleman Alex Marquez.

His team-mate, Niccolò Antonelli, finished his qualifying in 12th place with a best time of 1’51”693, therefore he will start tomorrow’s race from the fourth row of the grid. The 18-year-old rider from Cattolica remains confident for the race, which promises to be hard fought.

NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (12th - 1'51"693) “I was hoping to start from a better position on the grid, so I’m not particularly happy with the result, but at the same time I’m very happy with the work we have done in these two days. We know we can be faster, so I’m confident for tomorrow's race... in fact, I can’t wait for the fun to begin”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (2nd - 1'50"850) “I’m really happy to be on the front row for the first time! I have not taken advantage of the slipstream from other riders, but anyway I managed to get some good lap times; probably in the end I could improve  a little my best time, but I found it a bit of traffic and it was not possible. However, I’m satisfied! Tomorrow in the race we will have to try to stay calm, not get caught up in a hurry in the early laps, but try to save the tyres for the final stages”.

FAUSTO GRESINI “If you can tell it’s going to be a good day from the morning, we can clearly say that Bastianini can do really great things! Today Enea was really fast considering his lack of experience and the fact that he had never seen before this track, so I would like to congratulate him. He has a great serenity and he enjoys to ride: thanks to this attitude is already getting great results. Antonelli was also really good today: I’m happy with the way he worked so far this weekend, although obviously, coming from a difficult period, he still needs a little bit of time to rebuild confidence. Niccolò, however, is not far from the top, and his position on the grid is good after all, because in tomorrow's race we will definitely see a big group of riders fighting for the lead. It will be important to make a good start and be in the game at the right time”.
