Combined Free Practice Classification | Go&Fun

The Spanish Grand Prix weekend kicked off very well today for Xavier Siméon: after setting the fourth fastest time in the morning session, the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 was quickest in the afternoon session, on a track made really slippery by the high temperature. In the afternoon, none of the first 11 riders managed to improve their morning lap times: in the combined practice classification Siméon was therefore fourth placed, with a best time of 1’43”668, less than two tenths off the pace.

Aboard the Team Gresini Moto2 Suter machine, Lorenzo Baldassarri set the 18th fastest time, 1’44”359: the Italian rookie, who struggled with both front and rear grip, tomorrow will work on the chassis set-up together with his team, looking for more grip.

XAVIER SIMEON (4th - 1'43"668) “This afternoon the weather was very hot and the conditions were really critical: the track, and as a result the feeling with the bike, changed a lot between the two practice sessions, but I’m really happy for having set the fastest time in the afternoon, despite it was not possible to improve the morning lap times. Because of the much higher temperatures, the track is also very different compared to those we encountered during  winter testing, so all the riders are struggling a lot: however, we are at the top and this is definitely a good news. We are working hard for the race and we are already in good form, although we can always improve”.

LORENZO BALDASSARRI (18th - 1'44"359) “Today we faced difficult conditions and like many other riders I struggled with rear traction; in addition, I had a lack of confidence even with the front end. As a result it was definitely not easy: when I tried to push harder I was obviously a little affected by this situation, because I was losing the front quite often. All in all, this first day of practice has been useful to understand several things, even if I didn’t get what I wanted”.

FAUSTO GRESINI “In this first part of the season Siméon is proving to be a very fast and winning rider: I think he found the right feeling with the all the team and also with the Suter, therefore he’s in the best conditions to achieve good results, actually like he’s doing since the beginning of the season. I'm very glad that he’s been able to close the afternoon session at the top, although obviously due to a very slippery track it was not possible to improve the performance achieved in the morning. Tomorrow we will continue to work for the race, like we did today with a good outcome. Baldassarri struggled a lot with rear traction: for a less experienced rider like him this is undoubtedly an important problem to solve, but I am convinced that there is a good room for improvement”.
