The Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix got underway today in perfect conditions at the Jerez Circuit, in the south of Spain. Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 riders, Niccolò Antonelli and Enea Bastianini, spent the two 45-minute free practice sessions working on their KTM machine, collecting useful data ahead Sunday’s race. Enea Bastianini, especially, showed an serious speed finishing the day with the 12th fastest time, 1’48”531. The young rookie from Rimini, that has also occupied the sixth position during the afternoon FP2 session, set good split times in the first two sectors, but due to a mistake at turn 8, he was then unable to improve further in the final stages. His team-mate, Niccolò Antonelli, started the Spanish racing weekend with the right mood, with the aim of finding the right direction after two crashes in the last two races. The 18-year-old from Cattolica closed the combined classification of the two practice sessions with the 17th fastest time, 1’48”777.
NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (17th - 1'48"777) “We spent the first day of practice to test different chassis set-up regulations, just to verify if the direction taken in the last races was the right one. At the moment we are still a bit slow because in some areas of the track I still lack a little of confidence compared to last winter testing carried out here. I’m still not able to ride well as I would like. However, tomorrow we hope to be able to find the lost confidence and therefore improve”.
ENEA BASTIANINI (12th - 1'48"531) “Today we worked very well, doing things step by step, and the result is that I already feel comfortable with the bike more or less in every area of the track. I can ride smooth, and I also started to use the rear brake, improving my riding style. At the end of the afternoon session I also lit two red helmets in the first two sectors, but in the third sector, I lost control at turn 8, and are therefore I was not able to close the lap as I wanted. However, I'm delighted and I would like to thank the team because they are doing a great job and the bike is working really well”.
FAUSTO GRESINI “Today, we took to the track with good weather conditions and therefore we made full use of both practice sessions. Bastianini, especially, has been really strong despite his very little experience, showing once again how much he wants to emerge. Niccolò, instead, must find the right way: the mistakes of the last two races still have a little influence on him, so now the team must work closely with him to make sure he can return to the highest levels. Today we worked with serenity and without pressure, collecting a lot of data which will definitely be useful tomorrow”.Published on : May 1 2014
