Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 riders, Niccolò Antonelli and Enea Bastianini, closed today at the Mugello circuit the first day of practice for the Italian Grand Prix, setting the 12th and the 19th fastest time, respectively in the combined classification of the two 40-minute sessions, which saw the first 18 riders within less than a second. Almost all riders improved their lap times in the afternoon, despite some light rain forced everyone back into the pits 5 minutes before the end of the session. Niccolò Antonelli set a best time of 1’59”259, just over half a second from the top; the 18-year-old from Cattolica is already very happy with his feeling on the bike and tomorrow he will try to get even closer to the fastest riders. His team-mate , rookie Enea Bastianini, set a good 1’59”818: the youngster from Rimini managed to do a good job on the bike together with his team and tomorrow he will try to further improve his pace, especially with regard to the third sector of the Tuscan track.
NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (12th - 1'59"259) “I am very happy with this first day of practice: I really enjoyed riding and I hope to enjoy myself again tomorrow. I would like to thank all the team, that is giving me a big hand in this period in which I made some mistakes. Tomorrow we will try to get even closer to the top: today a lot of riders were all really close at the front, but perhaps this is due to the fact that on this track is easy to get a good lap time if you are able to take advantage of a slipstream. The important thing, as always, is to be able to do it by yourself, so tomorrow probably the situation will be the same as always, with the protagonists on top”.
ENEA BASTIANINI (19th - 1'59"818) “The position is not very good, but the gap from the fastest is just one second, so we can be satisfied with this first day. We are working well on the bike though obviously we’re still not one hundred percent, so tomorrow we will try our best, as always, to the right meeting point between my needs and the bike set-up; especially today I was losing ground in the third sector, although the situation has already improved during these first two practice sessions”.
FAUSTO GRESINI “This race is very important for us and we want to get a good result with both riders: we could have closed this first day in a better position, but we are already working for Sunday’s race and however our gap from the front is not so high. There is still some work to do, but I think that tomorrow we can improve”.Published on : May 29 2014
