On a day affected in the afternoon by the rain, Xavier Siméon and the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 were back in action today at the Mugello circuit for the first two practice sessions of the Italian Grand Prix.
Siméon spent the morning session using the harder compound tyres, closing with the 22nd fastest time, 1’54”390: a result below expectations that doesn’t affect the high spirit of the Belgian rider, who has already achieved a good feeling with his Suter also on this track. In the afternoon, Xavier made several laps in the wet achieving good sensations even under these conditions.
Lorenzo Baldassarri, Team Gresini Moto2, finished the first session with the 24th best time, 1’54”796: also the Italian rookie has not had a chance to improve his performance in the afternoon, but he still used the second free practice session to gather some experience with the Moto2 bike in the wet.

XAVIER SIMEON (22nd - 1'54"390) “It’s been a strange day: in the dry this morning for various reasons we were not able to be fast, but I was not worried because I only used the hard tyre on a track where the softer tyre makes the difference and the feeling with the bike was not bad; I expected to improve my performance in the afternoon but unfortunately it rained just before the second session and we lost time waiting for the track to dry, and then it started to rain again. However, I am very glad also of the feeling that I had in the wet: it was the first time I was riding this bike in the rain and I felt at ease. The situation is good, on both dry and wet conditions; anyway, I still hope for good weather tomorrow”.

LORENZO BALDASSARRI (24th - 1'54"796) “I started the morning session with a great determination and I was going very well, but later I was not able to improve a lot my lap times: I am therefore convinced that there is still a lot of margin. I wanted to continue to work step by step, as usual, in the afternoon, but we couldn’t do it due to the bad weather: I only did a couple of laps on a damp track, then I returned to the track when it started to rain harder, to gain experience with this bike in the wet”.
