GOOD START FOR BASTIANINI AT BRNO, DESPITE SUFFERING HEEL INJURY. ANTONELLI 13th AND IMPROVING

The first day of free practice for the Czech Republic Grand Prix, which took place today in Brno, saw the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 rider, Enea Bastianini, close the combined timesheets in fifth position with a lap time of 2’08”529. The young Italian rookie kicked off the weekend really well leading the way in the morning session, thanks to a good 2’08”633, and he was continuing to improve his performances in the afternoon session until, 8 minutes from the end of the session, he crashed following a big high side.In the fall Bastianini suffered a small fracture to the right heel bone: the 16-year-old rider from Rimini will take part tomorrow morning at the third and final free practice session, during which he will check his physical condition. His teammate, Niccolò Antonelli, ended the Friday with the 13th fastest time, 2’09”335, improving by almost a second between the first and second free practice session. From the morning to the afternoon, the 18-year-old from Cattolina refined his lines keeping a good pace, without other riders in front of him. Niccolò tomorrow will still try to follow other riders on a track where the slipstream can be worth several tenths of a second. NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (13th - 2'09"335)“I’m happy with this first day of practice, although initially it took me a bit of time to figure out the right lines to follow here with this bike, starting the day relying too much on last year’s references. In the afternoon, in any case, I was able to refine my line and I felt immediately more comfortable; the bike is working quite well, but tomorrow we need to be faster, which means trying to follow other riders. Today, in fact, I did all my laps by myself, but we know that on this track you need a reference in front of you to improve your lap times. However, we are happy and if tomorrow we will be a little more aggressive we can definitely improve. The shoulder is fine and it’s not annoying me: unlike Indianapolis, I don’t expect to have physical problems during the race, if not in the final stages”. ENEA BASTIANINI (5th - 2'08"529)“This morning everything went well: I felt comfortable with the bike and I was immediately fast, then in the afternoon we continued our work using the same tyres. I could keep a good pace, in fact before the fall I was in third place, despite using used tyres. In the latter part of the session we fitted new tyres and unfortunately I made a high side at the exit of Turn 3, suffering a small fracture in my right heel. Apart from that I'm fine, even if the bike hit me on my back, so tomorrow morning I will take part in the third free practice session, in which I can better check my physical condition”.FAUSTO GRESINI“Bastianini’s crash is a big pity: first of all we hope that the fracture on his right heel will not prevent him to ride like he can do and to continue his work on the bike, because today he proved to have the pace to lead the group. Niccolò improved continuously through this opening day of practice: he kept a good pace and overall the 13th place is not too bad, considering that tomorrow we expect a further improvement from him”.
