CHALLENGING QUALIFYING FOR BASTIANINI AND ANTONELLI IN INDIANAPOLIS

CHALLENGING QUALIFYING FOR BASTIANINI AND ANTONELLI IN INDIANAPOLIS

Today was a difficult qualifying day for the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway: during the 40-minute session which determined the starting grid of tomorrow’s Indianapolis Grand Prix, Enea Bastianini set the 16th best time in 1’41”691, while Niccolò Antonelli, still recovering from a broken right collarbone, will start from the 20th place on the grid with a time of 1’41”814.Slowed by traffic during the decisive stages of the qualifying session, Bastianini will line up in fifth row: the 16-year-old rookie will therefore face an uphill race, although he remains confident as he can rely on a good set-up of his KTM, reached this morning in the third and final free practice session. Also Enea’s teammate, Niccolò Antonelli, has not been able to significantly improve his lap times from this morning because of the traffic encountered on the track: the 18-year-old rider from Cattolica, considering the injury to his right collarbone, preferred not to risk too much and tomorrow will start from the sixth row of the grid. NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (20th - 1'41"814)“Even today I had to deal with my injured collarbone: after a few laps the shoulder starts to annoy me, although to be honest the real problem today was the traffic. To get a good lap time in this afternoon’s qualifying was necessary to risk, overtaking the slow riders who proceeded slower, but considering my injury I preferred to stay calm, there was no need to risk too much. Even today I didn’t use painkillers, but I will tomorrow for the race, so I think that physically I shouldn’t have any problems on the distance”. ENEA BASTIANINI (16th - 1'41"691)“I could do a better qualifying time today, but I have always encountered a lot of traffic during the entire session and I’ve never been able to complete a clean lap. In the last 10 minutes of the session every time I tried to make a fast lap there was always some other rider in front of me going slow, or riders behind me ready to take my slipstream. It was a complicated qualification, though it must be said that this morning I felt comfortable on the bike: we made some adjustments that allowed us to solve some problems that we had before. It will be a difficult race because we start back, but we will try our best, as always”.FAUSTO GRESINI“Sixteenth and twentieth are certainly not the positions that we expect to get, so I can’t say that I’m happy. Unfortunately we were not able to use in the best way the qualifying session, so now we will face an uphill race. However, we trust in a comeback both by Enea and Niccolò, because they have the potential to do it, even if starting back undoubtedly complicates things”.
