The Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 rookie Enea Bastianini took a deserved fifth place in the Grand Prix of San Marino and Riviera di Rimini held today at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. With the fight for the top three positions confined to Rins, Marquez and Miller, who managed to open a gap in the early stages, the 16-year-old rider from Rimini showed a great comeback from the sixth row, managing to finish the race just over 4 seconds behind eventual winner Alex Rins. Often the fastest on track in the second half of the race, in the final stages Enea fought for the fourth place with Isaac Vinales, who, however, managed to pass him under the checkered flag by just 26 thousandths of a second. With this result, Bastianini keeps the eighth place in the championship with 98 points. On the other hand, his teammate Niccolò Antonelli was not able to collect points in his home race, finishing only sixteenth despite the excellent qualifying yesterday: the 18-year-old rider from Cattolica was unfortunately slowed by physical problems, with the plate inserted at the end of July to reduce the fracture to his right collarbone that started to annoy him after just a few laps.
NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (16th) “My right shoulder was already bothering me yesterday, so I took antibiotics to try to relieve the inflammation to the plate they had inserted in the surgery to reduce the collarbone fracture. I was hoping that this could help me, but after only 4 or 5 laps I started to feel pain and there was nothing to do... In addition, I had some trouble following the crash of this morning's warm up. Right after the start I lost several positions: I was not feeling good and I couldn’t do more than that”.
ENEA BASTIANINI (5th) “It’s been a great comeback! Honestly, it was incredible for me to get fifth today, starting seventeenth. In the early laps I struggled a bit to push hard, but then in the second half of the race I could ‘hammer' with a good pace, lapping always in 1’43” low, and doing so I managed to reach Binder and Vinales and to open a little gap from them. Unfortunately on the last lap Isaac was able to take my slipstream and passed me at turn 10. Too bad, because without fighting perhaps we could have reached Miller, but in this moment I’m not interested, today I’m very happy with this result!”.
FAUSTO GRESINI “Bastianini did a great race: fifth is a good result considering his starting position. Too bad for the difficult qualifying session, which affected our race; in addition, Enea struggled a little little bit in the early laps with the full tank, but nevertheless he fought with a great determination, as always. Starting in a better position on the grid would have meant at least fight for the podium, but these are the races. However, today and we had a further confirmation of Enea’s high competitiveness. I'm sorry for Niccolò, who performed really well during practice and qualifying, but today was slowed by the plate inserted into his fractured collarbone and for this reason he had to give up. I would have liked to see him in full strength because I’m convinced that today he would have been able to fight at the top as well”.
