BAUTISTA AND REDDING READY FOR ASSAULT AT MISANO AFTER DIFFICULT QUALIFYING

Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista and Scott Redding claimed the 12th and 14th position, respectively, during this afternoon’s qualifying session of the Grand Prix of San Marino and Riviera di Rimini, at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. After closing the combined classification of the first three practice sessions in tenth place, thus gaining access to the Qualifying 2, Bautista was not able to go beyond the 12th fastest time and then he will start from the fourth row of the grid tomorrow. His teammate, Scott Redding, took part in the Qualifying 1 session, during which he claimed the fourth position in 1’34”919: the British rookie will then line-up his RCV1000R machine on the fifth row of the grid, anyway in front of the other three Open Class Honda bikes.
ALVARO BAUTISTA (12th - 1'34"766) “Today was not good, for sure: this morning we already had a lot of problems and I’m not able to feel the contact of the tyres on the ground, so we are struggling a lot. During the FP4 we tried some set-up solutions which didn’t work, therefore in Qualifying I used the same setting as before. We need to try something which can help me, otherwise I cannot push hard: everytime I try to push, I go straight on corner entry, because it’s vvery difficult to stop the bike in these conditions. Maybe keeping a good rhythm in the race will be easier than make one fast lap, so for tomorrow I hope to make a good start and then fight like I did at Silverstone”.
SCOTT REDDING (14th - 1'34"919) “Today was strange for me, I had two crashes and I struggled to get the right feeling on the front: there was no front grip and both crashes were caused by that. When I start to turn the bike I don’t have confidence on the front, but we will work hard tonight to find a good solution and to try to be stronger in the race. Maybe we took the wrong direction, but now I just need to clear my head a little bit after the crashes, because I was really frustrated for that”.
FAUSTO GRESINI “Unfortunately, Alvaro is still struggling: the rear grip issues have emerged also today, during the first day of practice in the dry and this didn’t allow him to get a good lap time in qualifying. We hope, however, that his race pace will allow him to recover some positions. After the rain yesterday and the two crashes today, Scott’s race weekend started uphill, but we trust in an improvement ahead of the race”.
