The two young riders of the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3, Niccolò Antonelli and Enea Bastianini, enjoyed today a positive first day of practice at the Silverstone circuit, home of the twelfth round of the 2014 Moto3 World Championship Moto3. Niccolò Antonelli finished the combined classification of the first two free practice sessions with the second fastest time, overtaken by Danny Kent for just 58 thousandths of a second at the end of the afternoon session: the 18-year-old rider from Cattolica immediately put on display a great pace and tomorrow he will continue to refine the set-up of his KTM in order to try to qualify in the first two rows of the grid. His teammate, Enea Bastianini, closed the Friday at a just over 0.4 second off the pace, in eleventh position: the rookie from Rimini, who in the morning session suffered a bit of pain in his injured right foot, will try to improve his performance tomorrow, especially in the second and in the third sector of the track.
NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (2nd - 2'15"630) “I am very happy with this first day, especially because I was able to keep immediately a good rhythm, both in the first and second free practice session. It’s important to be fast since the beginning. Now we will continue to work on my bike set-up and we will analyze all the data to better understand in which areas of the track we can still make further progress: this morning, for example, I was losing ground in T4, but this afternoon the situation has already improved. The target for tomorrow's qualifying is to stay in the first two rows of the grid”.
ENEA BASTIANINI (11th - 2'16"048) “The gap from the top is not so big, so all in all I’m satisfied: this morning my right foot was annoying me, so I decided to take some painkillers, therefore in the afternoon I had less problems. We worked well on the bike, although we can still improve, especially in the third sector of the track, and perhaps also in the second. I felt a lot of vibrations due to the many bumps on the track; the problem increases if your riding style is more aggressive, so it will be important to ride smoothly to prevent this”.
FAUSTO GRESINI “I am very satisfied: Niccolò today worked well since the morning session, then in the afternoon he set a great lap time which bodes well ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying. I'm happy for him, for all the guys of the team and also for KTM. Enea was fast as well: we must not forget that the injury to his right foot is still slowing him down, so he needs a little more time. For this reason I’m not worried: I believe that tomorrow he will be very competitive in qualifying”.
