Combined Free Practice Classification - moto3 - Go&Fun

Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 riders Niccolò Antonelli and Enea Bastianini finished inside the top 10 at the end of the opening day of practice of the Gran Premi de Catalunya, seventh round of the 2014 Moto3 World Championship.

In the first two free practice sessions, Niccolò Antonelli started to work on the set-up of his KTM machine, finding immediately a good feeling and continuously improving his lap times: the 18-year-old from Cattolica improved by more than a second his limit between the morning and afternoon’s session as he posted a time of 1’52”177, the fifth fastest in the combined classification, just over two tenths off the pace.

His team-mate, Enea Bastianini, making his debut on the fast and flowing Circuit de Catalunya, finished the day with an excellent seventh fastest time, 1’52”342.

NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (5th - 1'52"177) “I’m happy with this first day of practice, because we need to feel positive after the recent disappointments. Already at Mugello I was very comfortable with the bike and today I found the same situation: I feel good and I want to continue like this tomorrow. Our rivals will certainly make some steps forward, but we will try to keep their pace; we have already planned some changes in order to refine and improve the set-up ahead of tomorrow. However, we are pleased with how the weekend started”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (7th - 1'52"342) “Today I rode for the first time on this track and to be honest is not one of my favourite... but you need to like all circuits! Today we made a very good job: this morning we had a few minor problems but we were able to resolve them quickly in the afternoon. As a result in the latter part of the second session I managed to do two or three very good laps, especially the last one. We already took the right direction, but we can still improve, even with regard to the interpretation of the track”.

FAUSTO GRESINI “I am pleased with the results of both our riders in this first day of practice: we worked on different areas of the bikes in order to improve the set-up and the outcome is really good. I'm happy for Niccolò, who is finding the right confidence, as well as for Enea, who was immediately fast although he was riding for the first time here. We started off with the right mood: now we will try to continue like this, trying some other adjustments to the bikes’ set-up in order to improve further ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying”.
